From the archive: The best job in the world?
Five years ago we reported that a job buying chocolate at Fortnum and Mason had attracted 2,000 applications in a fortnight, having advertised itself as "the best job in the world".
I can see why this role would be so attractive, but is this really the best procurement job available?
What other products would make it a delight to turn up to work? A buyer of vintage wines perhaps? Or maybe someone who has to buy haute cuisine catering services – well, you would have to test them out wouldn’t you?
Let us know your suggestions.

Not sure if attraction is ‘what’ you buy or ‘who’ you’re working for. During summer with all the holiday travelling, I wish I was a Travel Buyer and obviously take advantage of ‘bargains’ knowledge of ‘staff rates’, possibly employers, British Airways, Thomson Travel e.t.c.
As for ‘what’ to buy, ‘technical’ items like aeroplane/spaceship parts sound exciting, NASA or Rolls Royce!
I think it all fully depends on buying person. I like buying food products and feel no excite from buying metal, leather and so on.
