Could a buyer lead England’s bid for the 2018 world cup?
On this morning’s Radio 4 Today programme Simon Cummins, head of the sports practice at headhunters Odgers Ray & Berndtson, was discussing the task the firm has of finding someone to lead England’s bid to host the 2018 football world cup.
He mentioned a number of skills that would be necessary for the post holder to have;
- International, multicultural relationship building skills
- Enjoy being in or around football
- Outward facing and strong in front of the media
- Skills not only relating to the commercial world, but also to the machinations of government
Listening to this it struck me that a buyer (probably with public sector experience) would be perfect for the role. Purchasers have all the skills above (even if they do need to work on being a bit more outward facing).
What else do you think a buyer could bring to the role to bring football home once again?
