Matrix man
Who can believe that this month marks 25 years since the publication of Peter Kraljic’s Harvard Business Review article in which he revealed his four-box ‘portfolio analysis’ matrix?
This model has been used in many a boardroom presentation to the bosses and to determine strategic priorities for procurement going forward. Has there been any other model since that has had such an impact on the purchasing profession? Do you still use the Kraljic matrix and find it as relevant today as it was then?
Go here to read the interview with him by Philip Usherwood and Dick Russill for CPO Agenda to mark the anniversary.

I think its fair to say all procurement staff worth their salt have used this as well as others to some extent in their careers, in fact, its one of my standard interview questions. “when did you last use the Kraljic Matrix, and how was it received in your organisation?”
Sadly one response received was – “What do you mean the film?”
