Survey highlights skill needs

According to a survey carried out in advance the World of Learning conference, young managers need to improve their communications skills.
The firm quizzed 267 learning and development experts asking which skills young managers need to improve – based on watching episodes of The Apprentice.
Respondents ranked skills as follows –
1) Communication – 71 per cent
2) Leadership – 62 per cent
3) Team work – 59 per cent
4) Negotiation – 37 per cent
5) Presentation – 33 per cent
6) Budgeting – 29 per cent
I find it interesting that “soft” skills were seen to need more improvement than basic business skills. From what I saw on the Apprentice the main problem wasn’t that ideas could not be communicated, but that they were ill thought out and doomed to fail to begin with.
