Chelsea charge for chips

You know the economy has turned ugly when Premier League football clubs start charging their players for canteen food in an effort to cut costs.
According to this story in the Sunday Mirror, Chelsea FC plan on doing just this. It is thought that the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon has requested cost reviews for each of Chelsea's departments and could start billing staff for food at the training ground. One player told the newspaper: "They must be joking if they think we'll pay for a crappy sandwich and a cup of tea. Next they'll be putting meters in the players' car park or asking the NCP to run it for them."
The London team is not alone in getting tough on costs. Earlier this year it was reported that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley planned to make players buy their own suits.

As I’m sure I said when the Newcastle suits issue came up, I think its ridiculous that anyone gets paid what a professional footballer does, and expects to get their food and clothing bought for them.
