Too stressed to talk?
The topic of stress at work has perhaps unsurprisingly risen up the agenda as a result of current economic woes.
A survey out today from insurers Aon says many companies may be underestimating the level of stress in their staff, which could damage company performance if not dealt with effectively.
Only 30 per cent of staff said they would talk to their manager if they felt stressed, preferring instead to discuss it with their GP, a friend or family.
The firm is advising companies to offer “wellness” programmes for employees that could include promoting sports and healthy eating, sponsoring sports teams and offering complementary therapies such as massages.

My company tries to provide these ‘strees busting’ activities. My observation, not participation,is that the people who are able to participate in these activities are the ones not working or not stressed anyway, leaving the rest of us (me) with higher work load, and resenting the application of stress busting activities for others.
Selfish consideration? Perhaps so, isn’t stress and level a matter of subjectivity anyway?
