Are you in the market for BCSS?
A letter in today’s Daily Telegraph business section suggests one reason for the popularity of low-cost country sourcing (LCCS) I have never heard before:
I wonder if Mr McGuire (Business letters, October 12) knows one of the reasons why Sir James Dyson’s manufacturing went overseas? The engineer responsible for sourcing the electric motors told me some years ago that he could not get the UK manufacturers to quote realistically. Often he would make a telephone enquiry to be told “Mr X isn’t in today, but he’ll ring you tomorrow.” Mr X rarely did. Consequently the motors were made in Japan.
I’ll take this with a pinch of salt, but I would be interested to hear from buyers to see if they have had the same experiences when sourcing from the UK?
If so, perhaps moves abroad are less to do with LCCS and more to achieve BCSS – better customer service sourcing.
