The Supply Management jobsite

The new frequency Supply Management

Supply Management magazine will become a monthly title from March this year. I wanted to highlight the change here in order to explain the decision – made jointly by CIPS and Redactive – which will see the biggest change in the title’s 15-year history.

The new magazine that you will receive from mid-March will be redesigned. Each issue will be more substantial with more pages focusing on the things you tell us you value most. Without revealing all, there will be more features, a news digest, and an enhanced law section. We will of course continue to publish job vacancies. And allied to this will be the continued development of supplymanagement.com and
jobs.supplymanagement.com

The change reflects the realities of the profession and of publishing. When SM was launched in 1996 its frequency was determined by two factors – the ability to provide news (in the pre-internet era) and to capitalise on the recruitment market within the profession. Since then things have changed.

As you will know, the ways in which most of us receive or seek out news and look for new jobs has altered massively over the past three years.

Both CIPS and Redactive have reflected these changes. We launched a daily newsletter service in September 2009 and its huge popularity is a testament to the profession’s desire to receive news digitally and more frequently. The growth in the visitors to our website – up 60 per cent year on year – is further evidence.

The jobs market has followed the same pattern. You will all have noticed the reduction in the number of vacancies in the pages of SM over the past year. This reflects a trend across publishing, and indeed recruitment, whereby most jobs are now sought and found online.

The last of the fortnightly issues will be on 17 February.

Please be assured many things will remain unchanged. Chief among those is our commitment to our readers to supply in print, and online, the highest-quality procurement news, features, opinion and jobs available anywhere in the world.

  1. What a pity.

  2. Great idea, environmentally friendly and we can still get out info online whenever we want it.

  3. Supply Management has always been the “face” of the procurement profession, the place to go to get both information and inspiration. What a pity that, at a time when the profession has never been under greater pressure to perform, this decision has had to be made. I can understand the probable economics behind it, but it is still a sad day.

  4. This makes financial sense from the publisher’s (Redactive) & CIPS’ point of view, given the loss of £XXX,XXX profit for each of them due to the dramatic reduction in job advertising revenue. However, is it good from the CIPS member point of view, even though the daily email short news version is very useful (at least for me)?
