Make friends with your stakeholder’s PA

Rebecca Ellinor, managing editor, Supply ManagementPersonal or executive assistants – PA or EAs – in the UK believe their role in the workplace is more important than ever.

Escalating workloads, evolving jobs and greater responsibility mean that are now increasingly dynamic members of their company’s management teams.

That’s the finding released this week following the annual National PA Survey.

Diversified Business Communications UK, who carried out the survey ahead of National PA Day next week (12 September), found the position has grown in significance over the past 15 years.

It is worth procurement remembering the key role they play when trying to establish links with stakeholders. As a senior buyer told me earlier this year, PAs can be of great help when forming relationships with hard-to-reach stakeholders. They often manage diaries and are aware what’s coming up and who the key contacts are, so hold a wealth of valuable information.

As the profile of PAs grows, purchasing should be sure to make friends with these key players in their organisation.

  1. It’s probably the most hilarious thing i’ve read this week. I do agree that you need to make friends with your stakeholder’s PA but for nothing other than getting meetings in. A lot of PAs certainly do have delusions of grandure and the scale depends on how much of a big shot their boss is. Their profile isn’t likely to rise beyond managing diaries/emails and doing miscellaneous admin. And referring to them as PAs or EAs is a totally wrong thing to do. EA is a different game altogether!
