It was a great evening at the CIPS Annual Dinner last night. Held in association with Proxima, the event saw senior members of the profession coming together to enjoy the company of their peers, an interesting guest speaker and a fine meal (and the accompanying wine – lots of people appeared to be enjoying that last night!). If you’re the parent of a young adult making major career choices, you’ll know many certainties about the transition from full-time education to the world of work have disappeared. A university degree is no longer the automatic passport to a successful career that it was for my generation and indeed, for many, the cost is putting this form of academic excellence out of reach. Conventional career paths must give way to new approaches to prepare young people for longer and more varied working lives. (more…)
One thing that occurred to me at last night’s CIPS Supply Management Awards (apart from the impressive line up of winners and showcasing of excellent work) was this: it was the most vocal crowd I’ve heard yet.
Perhaps it’s a leap to assume the profession as a whole is becoming more vociferous, but there were a number of announcements that provoked a passionate reaction from the audience. (more…)
