On one hand you are a professional and want to keep it that way. On the other, if you declined the request, would there be repercussions at work?

A survey by Fierce, Inc, in the US of over 800 Facebook users revealed most succumb and accept a request from a manager, despite feeling uncomfortable. (more…)

Despite years as a Big Brother(BB)-free zone, this year I found myself captivated by the programme. There is a strange appeal in watching people and judging them. I guess many of you think there is little worse than watching BB, even fewer would consider being a contestant, yet how many of you allow yourself to be scrutinised by your online public? In a recent SM100 poll, buyers were asked whether they or their department used social media to help them with their day job. The results were evenly matched.

The boom in the use of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn is a revolution in instant communication and advocates swear by its effectiveness in connecting to wider communities of shared interests. For small businesses – particularly of professionals – it has become integrated into their daily life, and most now wouldn’t be without it (despite the occasional time-consuming over-indulgence).
