Red Nose Day celebrates its 25th anniversary today. Comic Relief has become one of the most successful charity events in the UK calendar with 2011’s effort raising a record breaking £74.3 million.

This year’s escapades should not disappoint. In just one example of what our comedians will do to get you to

give up your cash, British national treasure, Miranda Hart is doing a week of challenges despite a dodgy knee. These have so far included waxing the armpits of rugby players, singing in a girl band, and will culminate today in arranging a wedding in under eight hours. (more…)

A lesson in leadership

At last night’s CIPS Annual Dinner, CIPS president Paula Gildert spoke about attending a celebration of the career of her company’s chairman, who is retiring after 25 years.

Daniel Vasella, currently chairman of pharmaceutical firm Novartis where Gildert works, was instrumental in the pharmaceutical firm’s development of a treatment for myeloid leukemia and named as one of Time magazine’s top 100 people in 2004. (more…)

Diversity is key

Rebecca Ellinor, managing editor, Supply ManagementUK Prime Minister David Cameron isn’t ruling out quotas as a means to increase the number of female directors. Although he stressed he would rather not have to resort to them.

The PM was speaking 12 months after the publication of a government-commissioned report that found the boards of British businesses were lacking gender diversity. A year on, the latest figures indicate little improvement. (more…)
